Freestyle Skiing Balance and Plyometric Training

Freestyle Skiing 2005 World Cup Champ Toby Dawson Takes the “Radu-road” to Torino
What does Toby “Awesome” Dawson, the gold medalist at the 2005 World Cup Freestyle Skiing Championships and 2006 Olympic hopeful do when he’s not training at home? …Well, more training – only this time, instead of setting sail and “Screamin Seaman” off mogul runs at Vail, he was literally jumping off the walls at Radu’s Physical Culture on 57th street in Manhattan. He even piled on another workout using Balance Boards and Plyometric Equipment from Vew-Do.
I’m dead serious… The only way to describe a Radu training session would be to say it’s like gym class with a rocket in your pocket. After Radu put Toby through a gauntlet of core training drills, * which included jumping 4 feet off the wall and leap-frogging over a maze of weight benches* I wondered how much gas he’d have left in his tank to work with him on his balance and agility skills.
Little did I know….No problem. That’s because Toby is a physical specimen; a rare genetic combination of strength, agility, lightning-fast reflexes and iron-man-like endurance. That was already proven when he placed third at Deer Valley, just 13 days after breaking his foot while playing volleyball. I just had to ask him how the heck he did it. His reply was, “I didn’t have time to do any rehab. I basically tossed the crutches for the day, competed and got right back on them as soon as my ski boots came flying off.”
Toby possesses so much natural balance and agility, that he was doing helicopters within five minutes on The Vew-Do balance board. Then, with his powerful leaping ability, he breezed through a few sets of upper and lower body plyometric exercises. After witnessing him train, Toby looks to be at the top of his game and performance ready.
He’s a favorite to make the US Olympic team. Then it’s off to Torino to stomp some mogul butt! Good luck to you Mr. Dawson…

2005-2006 Winter Weather Forecast & Outlook

Skiing & Snowboarding 2005-2006 Winter Weather Forecast
What’s the deal with this crazy weather this year? Let’s take a look at what Mother Nature threw our way. The Tsunami, a record tying 21st named storm. Now a record tying 12th hurricane of this 2005 season. This latest doozie is a monster category 5 hurricane named Wilma. Plus 7 straight days of pouring rain in NY and on and on.
The Tsunami alone was probably enough to throw off any accurate future weather predictions because of the changes it triggered in the sea surface temperatures. In a situation like this, I always like to go with a source that has a proven track record. That’s the Farmers Almanac. Here’s what you can expect for this season with the following 2005-2006 winter weather forecast.
The Northeast – December 2005 temps below seasonal and precipitation above seasonal. January 2006 temps and precipitation seasonal. February 2006 temps and precipitation seasonal. A major storm is possible January 16-18.
Upper Plains States – December 2005 temps and precipitation near seasonal. January 2006 temps and precipitation near seasonal. February 2006 temps below seasonal and precipitation above seasonal. Record highs are forecast for the end of December.
Mountain West – December 2005 temps above seasonal and precipitation below seasonal. January 2006 temps near seasonal and precipitation above seasonal. February 2006 temps near or below seasonal and precipitation above seasonal. Heavy snow for February at higher elevations.
Far West – December 2005 temps and precipitation near seasonal. January 2006 near seasonal temps and above seasonal precipitation. February 2006 temps below seasonal and precipitation seasonal. Major storms are possible in the last week of December.
There ya go; should be an interesting season for all you winter sports freaks. It’s always a good idea to be prepared and that means getting in some pre-season training. This is where you can get more information about how to train for the coming snowboarding and skiing season. Matter of fact, you’ll find out more about training for almost any sport for any season.

Shuvit, Ollie and Kickflip on a Vew-Do

How to Shuvit, Ollie and Kickflip on a Vew-Do Balance Board
Unbelievably, it seems like just the other day we were wearing shorts, now we’ve got overnight temps dipping into the low thirties. That’s Southern Vermont for ya. The seasons change fast. One week you could be water skiing and a week later you’re on a snowboard. Mother Nature rules…
Thinking about changes, we knew we had to get more balance training tips ready for our riders because the change in seasons also means this. Lots of balance boarders will be looking to sharpen their winter sports skills.
Thankfully, one of our resident pro riders, Will Mosheim, dusted off his trusty box of crayons. We can tell you that no one is going to accuse Will of being an artist anytime soon, but - what he did create are some step-by-step illustrated guides for teaching you the most popular board sport maneuvers. Here’s the skinny…
If you’re just starting out with balance training, then how to Shuvit is an easy to learn balance board trick for the newbie. After you ramp it up a notch, go for a little more air with how to Ollie. When you’re ready to make your balance skills really start to scream, then find out how to Kickflip.
Are you thinking, “So what’s this got to do with snowboarding, freestyle and extreme skiing or skating?” Here’s why it does. If you want to dominate or save yourself from looking like a goldfish flopping around on a countertop in any of these sports, you’ll need to get some serious “vertical air.” You’re also going to need some balance training using true multi-directional balance training equipment.
Think about it a minute; from takeoff, to mid-air body positioning through landing, your body positioning could get out of whack at any time. Lose your balance at any point during one of these maneuvers and you’re likely to end up on your rear end or worse. That won’t do much for your ego and your body’s anatomy won’t be happy about the pounding either. Preventing mishaps like that are avoidable if you do something about it now.
Follow this simple formula: Unleash that inner ability you have when you balance train on a multi-directional Vew-Do Balance Board. Then, when it’s prime time, look over your shoulder at everyone who didn’t. Balance training rules…

Bongo Board Inventor Stanley Washburn Was My Friend and Mentor
I got the sad news today from Stanley's wife Annabelle that Stanley died of natural causes Sunday Sept 11th. He was an energetic 96 years old.
I counted Stanley as a friend and a mentor for his genuine support for pursuing my dream of building modern day multi-balance training devices and equipment.
His original Bongo Board was the catalyst and the standard for developing the first Vew-Do Balance Boards. That will continue...
I am indebted to him for his insight and guidance, but I will miss Stanley Washburn for his friendship and support.

Vew-Do Urges Support For Hurricane Katrina Victims
by
Vew-Do-Balance-Boards
on Tue 30 Aug 2005 06:51 AM PDT
Vew-Do Balance Boards in Vermont, along with countless other small businesses across the country are lending financial support to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
At this time, The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army are requesting monetary donations instead of food or clothing. They say, “No donation is too small or insignificant.”
Besides the tragic loss if life and the immediate financial devastation, Katrina will likely trigger the most costly rebuilding program in the history of America.
Vew-Do urges fellow Americans to lend support, but cautions potential donors to be aware of the scam artists that creep out of the woodwork whenever disaster strikes.
Your best bet for safely donating funds is the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army. We’ve provided links to both organizations as well as the local Mississippi Chapter of the Red Cross.

New Plyometric Exercise Training Program Uses Vew-Do Balance Boards
As we speak…
In an undisclosed Top-Secret underground location our special agents are decoding the necessary physics, breaking down conventional training barriers and ironing out the details for the New Vew-Do Balance Board Plyometric Exercise Training Program.
Plyometrics combine strength, speed and agility training using gravity and ones own body weight. The goal is to condition the human body for muscle memory and help produce the continuous explosive bursts of power needed in most sports and even rehabilitation.
The only truly unique balance training device is also the most versatile core training device and we’ll soon prove it to a skeptical public.
This is just another reason why investing in a Vew-Do Balance Board now, saves you money with its versatile multi-directional, multi-sport and now multi-functional balance training features.

Balance Training Device & Wrestling Training
by
Vew-Do-Balance-Boards
on Fri 15 Jul 2005 05:20 PM PDT
Balance Training Device Added To Wrestling Training System
Vew-Do Balance Boards, the World's 1st patented and only high-end multi-directional balance training device has teamed up with Andre Brener, 2X Ukrainian National Freestyle Wrestling Champion and the developer of the AB Band resistance training system for wrestling.
Brener is developing a core balance training system using his AB Band System and the Vew-Do balance training device. Brener is one of the top wrestling clinicians in the country. He travels to numerous summer wrestling camps accross the US teaching and promoting his AB Band Training System.
A Vew-Do rep recently caught up with Brener at one of Bob Guzzo's NC State University wrestling camps and said, "We have a wrestling training match made in heaven. Andre comes out of the Soviet system that produced Olympic and World Cup Champions for decades. He understands and advocates the benefits of "core training" and his AB Band System is becoming widely used in the wrestling community."
Brener commented, “The Vew-Do Balance Training Device provides the heel/toe and lateral balance training that wrestlers need. The bongo board type balance trainers only offer lateral movement. The combined training system will give wrestlers strength, conditioning, balance and proprioception training in a program designed specifically for wrestlers.”
Vew-Do balance boards have already been endorsed by Kevin Moody of the US Olympic Training Center and fitness training legend "Radu." You can view a short video clip showing the multi-sport benefits of balance training with Vew-Do Balance Boards HERE.
Vew-Do owner Brew Moscarello added, "The benefits of balance training is becoming the replacement of cross training which was popularized in the late 80's. The Vew-Do balance board is truly the multi-sport balance trainer."

Balance Boards & Balance Boarders in Action
Greetings from Southern Vermont, Brew here...
Welcome to our long overdue Vew-Do Balance Boards Blog. The theme of this venture will be company, community and family.
Among other things, we'll be keeping you up to date on events, promotions and Vew-Do in the media. We'll be in the Hamptons next week for a fitness showcase by Radu Teodorescu where he'll be showing off his training routines using Vew-Do Balance Boards. We'll give you the "skinny" on the event when we get back.
We'll also be ramping up our Vew-Do Boot Camp, where hard-core boarders can keep up with the jones's on the latest tips, tricks and training techniques. If there's something new, we want you to know about it.
There's a whole army of board riders out there and we want to let people know who they are. We'll be talking to some of our pro and recreational riders.
We run this joint as a family, so we'll be encouraging the staff to post their thoughts, ramblings and ideas on here. Should be interesting to say the least.
Another topic of this online newsletter will be the Vew-Do lifestyle. Not just the lifestyle of the riders...we're not all about the boards. We've got families and other responsibilities just like everyone else.
There's a human interest side to what we do here. The Community, Charities and volunteer work. Stuff we think you should know about. That's it for now, Gotta go...
Later dudes and dudettes, Brew Moscarello...
